A Women Self-Help Group (SHG) is a community-based collective formed to empower women through mutual support, skill development, and financial independence. These groups typically consist of 10–20 women who come together to save money, access microcredit, and undertake income-generating activities. Beyond economic growth, SHGs play a vital role in building confidence, leadership, and decision-making abilities among women. They often organize training programs in areas such as tailoring, beautician work, handicrafts, and entrepreneurship—helping members gain employable skills and start small businesses. By fostering financial inclusion and social awareness, SHGs have become a powerful tool for women’s empowerment and grassroots development in India.
